Sparkle & Rock | Unboxing & Review

Since I started this blog in June 2016 I have been scouring the internet for a brand like Sparkle and Rock. I have heard of monthly jewellery subscriptions taking off in the US, but never found one within the UK until Sparkle and Rock got in touch with me earlier this month. Sparkle and Rock are the UK’s premier jewellery subscription service and the idea is very simple;

1. Choose your style of jewellery from 4 amazing looks; Boho, statement, dainty or their mixed box
2. Pay for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months upfront at £18 per month
3. Wait until the 21st of that very same month
4. Unwrap and enjoy the box that gets delivered straight to your door

It really is as simple as that, there is no contract, no obligations to keep re-ordering, and you can mix it up by switching which boxes to purchase. It is also an ideal gift to purchase for someone who is into fashion and jewellery, as it can be delivered directly to their door as a little surprise each month!

I was lucky enough to receive this months mixed box through the post and decided to create a little video of me unboxing it for you;

I have never received a monthly subscription box before so I was very excited when I got home and unwrapped it. I have had lots of fun this week taking photos, and thinking of outfits that I can wear the pieces with. The great thing about Sparkle & Rock is that it’s opened my mind to be more creative with different styles.These pieces are admittedly not pieces of jewellery that I would consider my style, but once I put them on I fell in love with each item! My favourite being the bracelet, which I have worn every day this week! The ring featured below has an elastic underlining which is ideal to be worn across different sized fingers. Likewise, the bracelet is adjustable, so it can fit every woman with ease.The gold coloured tassel necklace couldn’t be more on trend for this season and I have been wearing it this week to ‘jazz’ up my work outfits. I previously would’ve considered these pieces as statement jewellery, to wear on nights out only. However, I have learnt to be more creative with my own style this week and am loving the different looks that i can create just from three new pieces of jewellery! I have to say that I have felt very glamorous in my new items!

I am so pleased with the box and I think you could all agree that £18 per month is fantastic value!

I did wonder though how Sparkle & Rock managed to make these boxes so affordable and stylish. Luckily, I managed to get answers to some of the questions that you may be thinking with their managing director, Helen;

Q & A with Sparkle & Rock

1. Where did the idea behind Sparkle & Rock come from?

I have nearly 20 years experience in the fashion and retail industry. From running a vintage market stall on Portobello Road, to designing and buying and I am also a trained stylist.  I’ve always wanted to run my own business and have been obsessed with jewellery and accessories for a long time.

Subscription boxes are big news in the US.  However, in the UK I was shocked to find that there was no subscription purely dedicated to jewellery and so the idea for Sparkle & Rock was born.

I really love the subscription business model and am myself signed up to a few from food to make up. I am very short of time and no good with cooking or make-up so it’s nice to let someone who knows what they are doing find great new products or recipes for you, and tell you how to use them.

It’s also like receiving gifts to yourself in the post every month, and who doesn’t like that!

2. What kind of person did you have in mind that would buy the boxes when the idea was launched?

Our boxes are very much geared towards the fast-moving high street trends that change monthly as well as seasonal references.  Our customer tends to shop in Topshop, River Island, H&M style stores.  They like to be constantly on trend and to be able to have accessories to hand to update any outfit.

3. Where does your team of stylists gain most of their inspiration?

We generally work a couple of months ahead and we always seem to have similar ideas as starting points which is helpful! After initial meetings we usually start by creating our Pinterest boards. We have 3 girls who each have a box dedicated to their style (check it out at sparkleandrock on Pinterest). We then look at the clothes on the high street coming in and choose pieces that our jewellery compliments perfectly.

Our theme for this month was Dark Nights as a nod towards the Autumn/Winter months.  We looked at the velvet textures, metallics and star themes coming into stores as well as patents and the darker tones of the season.

4. What keeps the monthly subscription boxes so reasonably priced?

We love to offer our customers value and a good reason to sign up.  You generally get between 2 and 4 pieces in your box depending on price.  On occasion, we send out a Super Sparkle Box which will contain one higher priced, special piece.  For example, we work with  brands such a Lisa Angel to showcase them and to give our customer something extra special. 5. What are your plans and aspirations for Sparkle & Rock for 2017?

We are hoping to grow the business into a well-known brand and a go to for jewellery addicts, and customers who are short of time but love to stay on trend without the hassle.

We are also busy working on our own exclusive brand so watch this space!
